Orchid is the only UK registered cancer charity to focus entirely on the male-specific cancers; prostate, penile and testicular. We exist to save lives and suffering caused by these diseases by funding medical research and promoting awareness about them.

We raise voluntary funds which enable us to continue funding pioneering research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of these dreadful diseases and improve education about them so that symptoms can be recognised and medical attention sought early; helping doctors to find cancers at an early stage when treatment is easier. Men should not die because of ignorance or embarrassment.

  • Testicular cancer is the most common cancer for men aged 15-45; each year around 2,000 young men are diagnosed and face the emotional and physical trauma of fighting this disease.
  • Prostate cancer is now the biggest cancer threat to men in the UK with over 30,000 cases diagnosed each year; sadly one man dies every hour from this disease.
Research Orchid funded research spans work into both genetics and carcinogenesis (cancer mechanisms), whilst also supporting clinical trials into novel treatments. It has its own tissue bank to provide essential material for research.

The research programmes are subject to review, and the conclusions are published to ensure the work informs other medical practitioners and researchers. The charity is supported by a first-class Scientific Advisory Board that moderates activity annually.

Awareness Orchid is committed to promoting awareness of the male cancers and improving education about them; this is crucial in helping to recognise signs of the cancers - a simple self check can identify early signs of testicular cancer; which if caught early is 98% treatable

Orchid informs and educates through award winning campaigns like ‘Know Your Balls…Check Em Out’ aimed at educating young men about testicular cancer. We produce and distribute information and awareness material across the UK to schools, the workplace, health centres and to individuals.
